Here is our six-and-a-half months of cruising. We started in Toul in Lorraine and are now in Auxonne in Burgundy for the winter. It seems like we covered loads of territory, yet it looks so small on the map. We traveled about 900 miles, about the distance from Boston to Chicago. Our average speed was 2.3 miles an hour, a slow walk (keep in mind, though, that some days we spent more time moving vertically, in locks or waiting at locks, than horizontally). The real indicator of our effort, for us, is that we passed through 589 locks, and lived to tell about it.
